Dr. Prasad received his initial medical training and psychiatric training at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences, Bangalore, India, the Oxford Deanery and Region (UK) and later on at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He completed his NIMH-funded Research Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and is currently on the faculty of Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, Pittsburgh, PA, USA. Since completion of research fellowship, Dr. Prasad has been continuously funded through NIMH and Charitable Foundations. Dr. Prasad conducts research on the neurobiology and genetics of schizophrenia and at-risk mental state for psychotic disorders. He uses a convergent approach of neuroimaging and molecular genetics to investigate neurobiology associated with variations in risk genes and environmental agents. His research is supported by the US National Institutes of Health, the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Affective Disorders (NARSAD), the Stanley Medical Research Institute and the American Psychiatric Institute of Psychiatric Education and Research. He has received several awards including the NIMH Outstanding Resident Award and Young Investigator awards of several research organizations, the World Psychiatric Association and the International Congress of Schizophrenia Research. He is an active member of the Society of Biological Psychiatry and is elected to be the member of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology. He has published about 90 papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals and over 18 book chapters. In addition to conducting research, he works as an attending psychiatrist at the Services for Treatment of Early Psychoses (STEP) at the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic.
